Police: Irvine Girl, 16, May Have Run Away To East Coast

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Investigators sought the public’s help Monday in finding 16-year-old Irvine girl who may have ran away fro home.

Leandra Clark was last seen at her home on June 26 after being disciplined by her mother, and was last seen by acquaintances in the area of Culver Drive and Scottsdale Road on June 27, Irvine Police said.

Clark has previously run away from home and the circumstances surrounding this incident suggest her disappearance is voluntary, police said.

Detectives believe Clark may be staying with family members on her father’s side in the New Hampshire and Massachusetts area.

Clark was described as 5’7? tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information on Leadra’s whereabouts is asked to call 911, the local police department or the Irvine Police Department at 949-724-7200.

Friends, Family Gather To Remember Mom Killed By Hawthorne Police Cruiser

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) —  Friends and family of a woman killed when she was hit by a police cruiser in Hawthorne remembered her Saturday as a devoted mother of three.

Karina Preza, 34, died Friday — two days after she was struck.

She was on her way to pick up her husband from work about 2 a.m. She was just pulling out from the alley of her apartment building in the 3700 block of El Segundo Boulevard near Doty Avenue when she was struck. The impact of the collision caused her to be ejected from her vehicle.

KCAL9's Bobby Kaple said several candles were laid in front of Preza’s home in the shape of a cross.

She leaves behind Carlos , her husband of 15 years, and three sons ages 13, 5 and 1.

“She was the best mom. She would always be there when someone needed her. She would know when something was wrong, she would help you with those problems,” said son Carlos Cerna, Jr.

Kaple also spoke to the late woman’s husband who spoke through a cousin, Armando Piril, who translated.

“She was the mother of the house, she was the one that took care of everything,” he said.

The translator added, “She was always around. She was always helping and like he said, she was beautiful.”

Kaple reported several questions remain unanswered in the crash. How fast was the officer going? Was he using his lights and siren at the time of the crash?

Family members said they heard no sirens but investigators have not yet commented.

Piril was not there at the time of the crash, but he quotes several people who claimed to have heard the accident. “It was like a bomb. There were no sirens, no brakes. Just like something exploded,” says Piril.

Tonight’s vigil was the family’s first step on a long road of healing said cousin Piril.

“We want this case to be taken care of because they lost someone really important in their lives,” he said.

Police Hunting For Suspect Who Fatally Stabbed Partygoer, 20

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives with the LAPD’s Harbor Area are asking for the public to help them find a suspect who fatally stabbed a 20-year-old partygoer.

Brian Barajas and some friends were at a party in Wilmington Saturday night when a fight broke out in the backyard of the location — the 300 block of E. Q Street — around 11:25 p.m.

Officials said Barajas was not involved in the fight and he and his friends were leaving when the suspect walked up to him and stabbed him in the torso.

Barajas was taken to a nearby hospital but he succumbed to his injury.

Authorities said the suspect and the victim’s friends had gotten into an argument earlier.

There is no suspect description.

Sherone Simpson: Under investigation

Italian police say Jamaican sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson are under investigation for doping offences.

Their trainer, Candian Christopher Xuereb, is also being probed in an investigation which will try to establish if the trio broke Italian doping rules.

The trio's hotel was raided by Udine police on Monday and a quantity of drugs was seized. They are now being analysed to see if they were legal or illicit.

Powell and Simpson are among five Jamaican athletes who tested positive for a banned substance at last month's national championships.

The duo tested positive for the stimulant oxilofrine, whilst American star Tyson Gay has also failed a doping test in one of the biggest scandals the sport has known.

Powell's manager Paul Doyle says Xuereb had only recently started working with the Jamaican and may have innocently supplied a supplement, unaware it contained illegal substances.

He added that Powell and Simpson had co-operated with Italian police ahead of their hotel raid.

Doyle told the Telegraph: "Asafa and Sherone have been working with Wada (the World Anti-Doping Agency) to arrange this police raid, so to speak.

"Once we knew of the positive test, we realised that Asafa and Sherone were the only two athletes in the group who had been given new supplements by this phsyio that they are working with.

"Asafa's had probably 150 to 200 clear tests in the past. He starts working with a new physio who gives him new supplements and all of a sudden he has a positive test in his first test.

"It's obvious there's no other reason why he would have tested positive other than something being in the new supplements he's been taking.

"So we immediately asked Wada to get the police there to go in and search everything in the physio's possession as well as everything in Asafa and Sherone's possession."

The trainer of sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson insists he is not responsible for their positive dope tests.
