Grey-Thompson: Wants more testing

Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson insists there must be more testing throughout athletics to stop drug cheats ruining the sport.

Following the latest scandal that has engulfed athletics, with two of the sport's biggest stars, Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell, failing drugs tests, the 11-time Paralympic champion urges more must be done.

Grey-Thompson, one of Britain's most successful Paralympians, told Sky Sports: "I think we have to have much more testing of athletes.

"There would be a cost with that but I think it I possible to do it. Every week would be very challenging in terms of time spent travelling and training, but the out of competition testing is what I think we can make a difference.

"I think for sports to prove they're clean I think there's going to be demand for more testing."

The trainer of sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson insists he is not responsible for their positive dope tests.

Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay admit to failed drug tests

Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell has failed a drugs test, his management company has confirmed.

Powell's agent Paul Doyle admitted in an email to Press Association Sport that the former 100 metres world record holder had tested positive for a banned substance.

Powell, 30, has won gold medals in the 4x100m relay at the Olympics and World Championships and held the world record before his compatriot Usain Bolt.

The news comes just hours after American sprinter Tyson Gay revealed he had been informed by the US Anti-Doping Agency that an A sample from an out-of-competition test had come back positive for a banned substance.

Gay is now waiting for the results of his B sample.

A USADA statement read: "USADA appreciates his approach to handling this situation and his choice to voluntarily remove himself from competition while the full facts surrounding his test are evaluated.

"The B sample will be processed shortly, and as in all cases all athletes are innocent unless or until proven otherwise through the established legal process, and any attempt to sensationalize or speculate is a disservice to due process, fair play, and to those who love clean sport."
